Spring is here!

With the arrival of Spring and the clocks going forward we can feel rejuvenated and with the added bonus of warmer weather the buying public (your customers) are ready to shop!

When installing a Spring window please make sure that you thoroughly clean any plinths, Perspex stands and of course the merchandise – this may need to be checked for dust and general ‘debris’ whether it is hard or soft merchandise.  The biggest faux pas when installing a new window is dirty window glass! This must be kept scrupulously clean all year round. It gives the wrong impression to your customers if your glass is grubby, smeared or dirty!  Also during this time of the year you may get dead insects in the window space: make sure you check your window daily and remove any insects when you do your daily clean.

Make your windows bright and eye catching, don’t clutter them with an excess of merchandise and remember that a few key pieces and a smart prop in a window will attract prospective customers rather than filling it full of every new line you have just had delivered which will confuse your customer as their eye won’t know where to look!

Remember that it is very important to change the merchandise in your window on a regular basis. When you install a new window, it’s most important to dress it with a great prop and then change the merchandise two weeks later to keep your window fresh and current.

Windows are a great selling tool and the first thing that your customer sees. With little outlay they can work for you in a positive way and increase your footfall and revenue.

Window Dressing for Valentines

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching retailers should be thinking about suitable props to add to their displays to give a boost to their merchandise whether this is with a burst of colour (bright red or cerise or both together) or with strategically placed rose buds or similar items!

We have dressed out two windows in Amersham on the Hill with heart garlands which was a great accessory to their fragrance and skincare window (Dior, Armani, Clarins)!

Don’t clutter your windows with props though. Don’t forget that the merchandise should be the main focus with the props added as an accessory. Good luck!

Visual Merchandising Specialists Rejuvenating Liskeard in Cornwall

Spent the week in Liskeard in Cornwall with my team helping to rejuvenate 20 shops in the town!

All of the shops (ranging from gifts to menswear, books to carpets, women’s wear to hardware, opticians to wood burning stoves, cycles to stationers, cafés to the local newsagents, all of them were given our attention and the results were amazing with all of the retailers enthusing over the results.

Visual Merchandising Liskeard

We set up two evening workshops with 26 local traders attending across the two evenings. A manual was also produced containing details of the dos and donts of visual merchandising.

BBC Radio Cornwall expressed an interest and a couple of interviews were conducted with myself and one of the leading traders. The BBC also filmed us dressing a window from beginning to end to be included in a forthcoming TV programme.

All in all a very productive week was had by myself and my team. We are leaving on 2nd November to return to Berkshire feeling very satisfied with a job well done’!
