Furnishing Fabric Installation

Shop window dressing

We recently installed a very chic display using furnishing fabrics. The client wanted a different look to their window as previously it had been very cluttered with a lot of fabrics displayed at once. The only brief that we were given was – ‘I want something completely different to what we have had before’! News to our ears!

A range of tapestry fabrics and tapestry inspired fabrics were selected by the client for us to choose from. Fourteen fabrics were eventually chosen with an overall colour palette of purple, green and neutrals. The client gave us a free rein to create whatever we wanted which was very encouraging.

The clients previous window displays were very full and busy with the fabrics fixed either to the back wall or flush to the window glass therefore no depth was created. We fixed some hooks into the ceiling framework with poles suspended from them, this enabled us to drape fabrics from the poles at different distances between the window glass and the back wall thus creating the desired depth that the windows were lacking.

The fabrics were then draped and folded and rouched from the ceiling poles and over different sized display cubes and onto the fabric covered floor panels.

Classic style picture frames finished in neutral colours were filled with flat fabric and fixed to the back wall or suspended from the ceiling poles that we installed to give depth to the window. Further frames were used without fabric inserts.

The overall effect was very smart, clean and chic – showcasing the lovely fabrics that the client produces. The finished window was reminiscent of an art installation – uncluttered and minimalistic therefore ensuring that prospective customers could see the beauty of the fabrics.

Don’t be tempted when using furnishing fabrics in your window display to always drape them like curtains. Often an abstract style of draping can be more effective and helps to create a great mood and atmosphere in the display and will grab the attention of a prospective customer because it’s unusual and is least what the customer is expecting to see!Fabric installation
